Child prophylaxis
In our practice, we attach great importance to prophylaxis for children. Regular prophylactic measures can prevent many diseases of the oral and maxillofacial region.
An example of this: A child only goes to the dentist with his parents for the first time at the age of nine because he has a toothache. After a thorough examination, it is determined that there are many decayed teeth, that oral hygiene is poor and that one of the permanent molars cannot be retained. Treatment under general anesthesia is necessary. The fact that the permanent tooth cannot be preserved means that orthodontic treatment will be necessary in the long term in order to close the existing gap with braces. All these treatments would not have been necessary if the child had regularly visited the dentist for prophylaxis from the age of six at the latest.
From the age of six, statutory health insurance companies cover six-monthly prophylaxis sessions in which children’s oral hygiene is checked and they are taught an appropriate tooth brushing technique. We offer you the option of having these prophylactic measures carried out on two further appointments at a small charge. If your child comes to the practice four times a year for prophylaxis (twice free of charge, twice as private treatment), then you can be sure that you have done everything for your child’s dental health and that no major carious lesions develop. Caries can be prevented.
Another preventive measure is the sealing of dental fissures, which you can find out more about in the fissure sealing section.
