Digital dentistry – how you benefit from it with us
Dentistry is a highly precise craft, and this is no less true today than it was decades ago. What has changed fundamentally since then, however: State-of-the-art dentistry makes use of a variety of digital technologies – which are also constantly being supplemented, further developed and optimized. This benefits not only us as a practice and our partners in the laboratory, but above all you as our patients.
What does digital dentistry mean? When we take x-rays or images of your teeth, this is done using a digital scanner. This allows us to show you the images immediately on the screen or email them to the laboratory. If it turns out that you need dentures, we no longer take the impression using impression trays and materials such as alginate. Instead, an intraoral scanner is also used here. This is quicker and more convenient for you.
The image data is processed on the computer using special software to create the design of your inlay, bridge or prosthesis. This process is known as “computer-aided design” (CAD). The dentures themselves are created in a modern laboratory, also with the help of a computer. The keyword here is CAM: “Computer-Aided Manufacturing”. This procedure is also used when aids such as drilling templates for the correct position of implants need to be produced as part of your treatment.
